The Diamond of Istanbul

Hattat Construction Co. have commenced structural work on the next jewel in Istanbul's emerging skyscraper crown named the Diamond of Istanbul.

Designed by Dome Architecture of Istanbul and reaching 270 metres in height, the project will consist of three towers connected by a central spine to form one structure, the three segments of the structure will be divided for different uses.

The smallest covering a total area of 16,000 metres square will contain A grade office space, the second tallest will be dedicated to residential and will cover an area of 18,000 metres square and the tallest covering an area of 20,000 square metres will house a 300 room luxury hotel. The hotel tower will have two restaurants, both offering panoramic views of the Bosphorus and the cityscape beyond.

The complex will also include a 5 floor shopping mall spanning over an area of 35,000 metres square allowing patrons and residents to not only admire an enormous jewel but perhaps purchase a few smaller ones for themselves. Also included in the scheme are cinemas, concert halls, botanical garden and a huge aquarium. Underground parking will also be included.

Located in Istanbul's growing business district the towers will also have direct access to the airport approximately 40km away as well as direct access by subway to the old town, business centre and airport. It will be one of the few hotels to have direct subway access to the airport.

The tower will be a mix of steel and concrete addressing earthquake risks and will also feature bio climactic design and a double glass façade which will provide natural light and air flow to the tower and to address green issues the tower will generate its own power with the clever use of co-generating technology.

This isn't the only project of this scale under construction in the Turkish city. The Sapphire Tower, another skyscraper named after a jewel, is also being built. These two mark a sea-change in tall buildings in Turkey being the first two truly high-tech ones that rival the very best being built in London or Frankfurt.
